A little overview

A little history to setup the what, where, why, and how of this journey.   In  2012 I was offered a job in Salt Lake City, Utah, and pounced on the opportunity.   Being raised and living most of my life in the northern most portions of New York I knew it was time to spread my wings and pursue my own Manifest Destiny.   My father accompanied me in a Uhaul containing the majority of my worldly possessions on a 35 hour, nearly non stop journey to a foreign land, to which I had visited but knew nothing about.   Utah might be one of the most stereotyped states in the union and believe me, I heard them all before I moved... There is NO beer there...  Bars are illegal... You WILL become Mormon... You WILL have 3 wives before you make it to Thanksgiving... It painted a picture of some puritan village, hidden away in a gloomy, leafless forest.  In the back of my mind I knew this was not case.  I had been there, I had seen the magnificent Wasatch Range, the high lakes of the Uintas, and of course the endless expanse of the Great Salt Lake.   There is no doubt that Utah has some of the most diverse, vast, and beautiful Physical features of any state I have traveled.

Physical features aside, it is a strange place, culturally, to get used to.  The stench of an older time lingers everywhere like the choking inversion we get in January.  Obviously it is not up to prohibition standards but you get real sense that the state wishes it was...  After living here for a few months you won't even notice it but if you have any friends or family from out of town visit, they always pick up on all the caddy wompus rules and regulations.  The City of Salt Lake itself is very diverse and forward thinking; a very young city with plenty of festivals, concerts, and eateries.

Despite my knocking, I have thoroughly enjoyed my time in Utah.  Life long friends were made, endless exploring was tapped into, and a much more open mind was gained.

... and so the title of this page, Ramble On...  I grew up in the Thousand Islands region of NY, to me the most beautiful place in the world, and only being able to visit once or twice during the year is just not enough.  So I finally made my decision to throw in the towel with the company I have worked for the last five years and head back.  It was not an easy decision and if any of you reading this know me well, I have been talking about it for far too long.   The job is done, yet there are no set dates or objectives; the next few weeks/months will be an adventure.  One that has no planned route.   Feel free to follow along and see where the road will take me.

P.S. I apologize in advance if this is excessively fly fishing oriented... I have a fever and the only perscription...

    1. Its a great little hobby. I took dad out on monday and he had caught a fish in 10 minutes! I also took the Newells out while they were here. They do a lot of fly fishing around Rochester and would be your best resource for sure!
